From the very beginning, the air-rights development above Wien Mitte Station, with its two underground and five suburban railway lines, the CAT, and more than 100,000 passengers per day, was destined to be more than just a station. By developing architecture with lighting installations and artistic accents, the aim was to create an urban meeting place at the international scale. A total of 480 million euros were invested in the complex, with its 150,000 m² of gross floor area, 62,000 m² of office space on five levels, 30,000 m² of retail space, and around 500 parking spaces.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in 2007 and the pre-opening in 2012, before the center eventually started operating fully in April 2013. Ever since it opened it has been hard to imagine Central Vienna without WIEN MITTE The Mall: as an outstanding shopping center in the heart of the city and a practical shopping option for all Viennese, commuters, and tourists.
